How To Apply Mural Transfers |
These directions are for our Mural Transfers. The repositionable "Movable Mural" line is simply peel and stick! All murals are clearly labeled as Mural Transfers or Movable Murals.
|
 |
Step 1
Cut out around separate mural design elements. Keep the backing paper in place (you can tape the sheets together in a non-design place) until you decide on the placement.
|
|
 |
Step 2
When you have the design exactly where you want it, remove the protective backing paper and smooth the transfer against wall with your hand. Starting at a corner of the design, rub design firmly with enclosed applicator tool. As you rub, pay extra attention to edges and small parts.

|
 |
Step 3
Start peeling away transfer sheet and check the transfer progress as you go. You can put the transfer sheet back over the design and smooth your hand over the mural to make sure it is completely bonded to the wall. On textured surfaces, use your palm to easily press into any grooves in your wall.

Tips and Suggestions |
- Leave the backing paper ON until you have the design exactly where you want to transfer it.
- Take a little time to plan where you want to put the mural. Some murals will come as elements that you cut out and space however you would like in your room
- Larger murals will come in large pieces, and they will fit together like puzzle pieces. It's easy! We will tell you which piece to put up first then each piece will fit into place. You can see through the transfer paper, so they are quite easy to line up. If this is a design that needs to be straight, you will need to get out your trusty level (a laser level works exceptionally well and leaves no marks) It will make all the difference in the world if you take the time to do this. Level marks will be printed on designs that need leveling, so you can line the mural up easily with a level mark on your wall.
- You do not want to tape a design onto a section of mural that has already been rubbed on the wall. Removing the tape could pull up the design.
- Remove the backing paper and smooth the mural onto the wall from the center out with your hands. This will eliminate any air pockets. However, if you do get a small bubble, you can usually just press it down. If you have any larger air pockets, simply prick with a pin to let air out and smooth down. The murals are self sealing and any pinpoint will not be visible.
- Start rubbing in a CORNER of the design as you gently pull away the transfer sheet. Pay extra attention to any edges or small parts of designs. You can check your progress as you lift the sheet.
- If you see that a bit of the design does not transfer, just place the sheet back in place and rub again. You can tape the transfer sheet to the wall so it doesn't shift while you are rubbing the image. Do not lift the transfer sheet completely off until you see that it has transfered completely. After you have transfered the design, place the (empty) transfer sheet back down over transfered image and smooth over the entire design to ensure a complete bond to the wall.
- These designs can be applied to textured surfaces, though you will need to rub the design more thoroughly and it will take more time. You can press the design with your palm to make sure it goes into any grooves in your wall. This product is amazing on textured surfaces! The result will be an old world look with perhaps a few fine crackles that enhance the look of the design on textured surfaces. It really looks hand painted because it takes on the texture of your wall!
- Transfers are not recommended for surfaces that constantly get wet, such as shower tile, sinks etc., but they can certainly go in bathrooms or on tile and mirrors.
- Many designs, like ivy, vines and others are customizable. Designs can also be layered over other designs. Cut out the elements and create your own design! Visit our website for more pictures and ideas.
SURFACES
Recommended wall surface is matte or eggshell wall paint. Transfers can also be applied to floors, ceilings, tile, mirrors, glass, furniture and many other hard surfaces!
If your paint surface is semi-gloss, it may be a bit too slick to easily accept the transfer, so you can wash the wall with a clear vinegar/water solution (30%vinegar/70%water) to give your surface more "tooth". Let wall dry thoroughly. This solution will not take off your paint and will help the design adhere better to semi-gloss surfaces. You can also use a blow dryer to lightly warm the transfer on the wall to assist with adhesion. You can also use the sandpaper method recommended below. Try out the sample we have provided to make sure the product adheres, before applying mural.
For a gloss (this also works for semi-gloss) surface, rub wall very lightly with very very fine sandpaper (360-600 grit) where you are applying design and wet-wipe to remove dust. Let dry thoroughly before applying transfer. Finish with a non-yellowing gloss or semi-gloss spray sealer (see below) to match surface. Your mural will now be the same "gloss" as your wall and look custom painted! Try a sample before applying mural.
You can also spray with a few coats of matte sealer to create a surface with more "tooth" to accept the transfer. You can give it a final spray with non-yellowing gloss sealer if you want to maintain a gloss finish. These are just suggestions. The recommended surface is matte or eggshell paint, as the murals transfer very easily to regular matte or eggshell wall paint. These techniques help simulate a matte surface and you can still maintain your glossy surface with a few sprays of sealer.
SEALING
In most cases your mural transfer will not require sealing.
However, if your transfer is placed in a high traffic area such as a floor or on furniture or outdoors, or you want extra protection, spray with several light coats of non-yellowing acrylic spray to match the sheen of the surface it is transferred to.
REMOVING
Just prime and paint over!
On mirrors or glass you can carefully scrape design off with a razor scraper or use clear packing tape placed over the design and the design will pull up with the tape. Any residue will clean up with acetone nail polish remover. Finish by cleaning mirror as usual.
