 Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I apply a transfer mural?
The simple directions are...remove backing paper, place mural on wall, smooth, then rub the design off the transfer sheet onto your wall and lift off transfer sheet. You can visit our "How To Apply" page for complete application instructions and lots of tips. Instruction sheets also come with every order! It's easy and fun!

  • What surfaces can I apply transfers to?
Our transfer murals can be applied to most hard surfaces including walls, ceilings, floors, woodwork, ceramics, tiles, furniture, mirrors and glass. We don't recommend using this product on surfaces that regularly get wet such as shower tiles and sinks. They can go in bathrooms, just not in places that they regularly get wet. If you use our transfers on glossy paint, please read our recommendations below on how to easily prepare glossy walls.

  • I have textured walls? Will the transfers or "Movable Murals" work on textured walls?
Yes, both our transfers and the "Movable Murals" can absolutely be used on lightly textured walls. For the transfers you may have to rub the design a bit more thoroughly and therefore it may take a little more time. The result will be an "old world" look with perhaps some little crackling in places, depending on the texture of the walls, but this actually enhances the look of the design. Keep in mind, if someone were to come in and hand paint a mural on textured walls, you would get some slight variations and crackles on uneven areas with a textured surface.

  • Will the transfers work on semi gloss or glossy surfaces?
The recommended paint surface is matte, eggshell or satin. As you can see on our instructions page we recommend an easy preparation for a semi-gloss or glossy surface, before applying your mural. For semi- gloss surfaces, wash the wall with a clear solution of 30% vinegar/70% water. This will not take off your paint and will help the design adhere to your surface. For glossy surfaces (can be done on semi too), rub surface in the area where the design will be placed with a very fine sandpaper (360-600 grit). A light touch will remove the sheen and the design can then adhere to the wall. Wipe the wall clean with a tack cloth before applying mural. You can spray with a few light sprays of sealer to match the gloss of your surface to finish.

  • Do I need to seal the mural transfer artwork?
In most cases, no, your mural transfer will not require sealing. If your mural transfer is in a high traffic area, you can spray with several light coats of non-yellowing acrylic to match the sheen of the surface it is transfered to. This will protect the surface and it can easily be wiped clean with a damp cloth. You will always want to seal transfer murals used on floors or murals used outdoors.

  • How do I clean the design transfer?
Lightly dust or damp wipe with a soft cloth or duster. If the mural is in a high traffic area, it can be sealed with a non-yellowing acrylic spray. To be perfectly honest, I have some flowers and a butterfly on the back window of my car! They have gone through the car wash and the winter and look great, so wiping them down is no problem! They remove from glass with acetone nail polish remover.

  • Can the artwork be removed and reused?
Our murals are not printed on a vinyl removable "sticker" like some products. It is as thin as a coat of paint. So, it is not reusable or removable. You would treat it as if it were painted on the wall. The image that is released onto your wall is just the very thin printed image and that is what makes it look hand painted! It is permanent and should last for many many years, but it can simply be primed and painted over if you ever want to redecorate.

  • What is your return policy?
The beauty of our designs is that you can see the finished artwork BEFORE you apply it to your wall. You can return the mural artwork for a 100% full refund if you do not like the design, before it is cut or applied to a surface. Please go to our "Shipping and Return Policy" link at the bottom of the page for the details of our return policy. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email us.

  • I really like this idea, but I don't see the mural design I want. Will you be adding new designs soon?
We will be adding new designs as often as possible. Feel free to email us if there is a particular mural or design you want. We will be happy to take that into consideration as we add new artwork to our collection. We will let you know about new designs, sales and/or coupons in our monthly newsletter, so sign up and you will be the first to know about new design additions.

  • Can transfers be layered on top of one another?
Yes. We often show elements such as vines on top of other elements. Since they are so thin you will not get a build up on the surface. However, you should never tape one design on top of a design that is already rubbed down, it may ruin it when the tape is pulled off. These transfers are about 90% opaque, so we often suggest putting darker colors on top of lighter colors otherwise you may get a slight color showing through. There are some designs when you would WANT to put lighter over darker... like our balloons! We love overlapping to get the mixture of colors coming through as it makes the balloons look translucent and very realistic!

  • I am putting this in a child's room. Is there anything I should be concerned about?
Our mural transfers are made in the USA and are non-toxic. There are no edges for a child to pull up. This is a child safe product, and as a matter of fact, kids love to help you rub it on the wall! Our Movable Murals are made of a finely woven, breathable matte material and though repositionable peel and stick, they stay on the wall and kids won't have loose edges to tug at! Wall Dressed Up transfers are acid and lignin free, so they are great for use in scrapbooking as well!

  • What is a "Movable Mural"?
Our Movable Mural line is printed on an ultra-premium peel-and-stick repositionable material. It is matte and invisibly porous, so NO BUBBLES! No mistakes! Reposition as many times as you like, and it will not lose adhesion. It will stick to the wall until you decide to take it off. Can be removed and stored on original backing paper.
